Organize your Folders via “Keep Arranged by” shortcut in OSX

We often like to have our folders arranged either by name or by kind or by date, but Mac’s right click(two-finger click) allows you only to arrange the files once. After that any new files you add just keep piling up at the end. There’s a neat trick to keep your folder arranged in a particular way. After the right click, just hold the OPTION key. It changes the ‘Arrange by’ to ‘Keep Arranged by’ and then you can choose how you want to keep your folder organized.

  1. Is it just me or is there something wrong with this feed? I get each new post twice in my reader and also I get each existing post again every time there is a new post.

This happens in both feeddemon and netnewswire synced via Newsgator.

I found that "Keep Arranged by" only help to organize shortcuts on the desktop. How do I organize the files in other folders?

  3. You can do this anywhere using cmd-j to bring up the view options.

Encro's tip is better than the original one... If you the Option + Right-click one, the setting will not work after you close the Finder window...
