Drag Items onto Finder Toolbar

I never knew you could drag items onto the Finder toolbar. So far I’ve been able to drag files, applications and folders.

This turns your finder into a second dock for quickly accessing frequently used items.

To do this, drag any item over the toolbar and hold it there for a second until the plus icon is added. Release and you’re done.

  1. A great use for this is Time Machine. When you have TM in the Finder toolbar you can just click the icon on any finder window and have TM open up to that folder.

  3. Open in TextMate: http://henrik.nyh.se/2007/10/open-in-textmate-from-leopard-finder and another good one I use it Open Terminal Here: http://henrik.nyh.se/2007/10/open-terminal-here-and-glob-select-in-leopard-finder

The Iselect is good as well but I have that bound to a Quicksilver trigger.

Is there any way to remove items other than replacing the entire toolbar with the default set?

  5. John,

    Control+Click and "Remove Item"

    Thanks,
    Brad

  6. Alternatively, you could hold Command and drag them off.

Thanks, I frequently forget how intuitive these commands are.
