OmniGraffle is one of the apps that makes the Mac what it is. By default it is bundled (a trial version) with the Operating
System, and rightfully so as nearly every user can make use of it.
What it does at a basic level is insert icons, pictures, text and allow you to arrange them to however you want. Creating
flow charts, process chart, page-layout, web-site mock-up or graphic designs are all easily possible with
OmniGraffle. And not only does OmniGraffle allow you do the things listed above but makes it so simple and
easy but at the same time allows for the potential to be complex and customizable if necessary. If you don’t quite
understand or want to learn more on how to use it and how it functions the OmniGroup has a site dedicated to
tutorials and other information on OmniGraffle.
The user base around OmniGraffle is so vast that like Vim and Emacs, many third-party add-ons have been created
for it. These add-ons encompass things like walkthroughs, templates, stencils (the images that you drag on
your diagrams and designs), scripts and more. The add-ons site is here, although you can find more around the
web if you Google for what you want. One user even turned OmniGraffle into a News reader with AppleScript.
There are two versions of OmniGraffle; Standard and Professional, their costs; $99.95 and $199.95 respectively (upgrades cost
$39.95.)
Many of you should have the trial installed already, however if you don’t you can get it here. OmniGraffle
was updated today to 5.0 and is Leopard Only.
