Pimp My Terminal

A quick and painless way to make your dull Terminal turn into a cool Terminal! Go to Preferences, Settings Tab, then choose a premade theme or create a new one by clicking the “+” button. I have here my own personal concoction which I call, Barney the Dinosaur.

Not only is it possible to change the color of your prompt, you can change the font as well. The Text tab deals with font color/style; Window adjusts the background colors, etc; and the other ones adjust things that I won’t pretend to know about.

Note: I did this in Leopard’s Terminal, I have no clue if this works in Tiger, if it does, please say so in the comments.

Yes, this feature is avaliable in Tiger, albeit the premade themes. There are two ways to access the Window Settings in Tiger, one is in preferences and the other is to right click on the terminal window, and select Window Settings.

  3. The amount of customization you can do in the Mac OS X Terminal.app is pretty amazing. I spent about four hours recently adjusting the font settings in my terminal profiles, also trying many different monospaced fonts. I finally settled on http://www.levien.com/type/myfonts/inconsolata.html" rel="nofollow"> Incosolata with 1.10 character spacing and 0.90 line spacing (I crunch it to 1.00 and 0.80 for my custom log tailing window).

But sadly, Terminal.app is still limited to 16 colors. c.f. http://www.frexx.de/xterm-256-notes/" rel="nofollow">256 color mode of xterm
