My favorite thing so far about Adium’s recent 1.2 update is that it fixed most of the serious bugs I had been seeing with it in Leopard. (It also added some new ones.)
However, Adium’s most recent update also added some new features.
My favorite one of them so far is that you are now able to access your contacts through Adium’s optional menu bar item.
First of all, make sure the menu bar is activated. If it is, there should be a little icon featuring the Adium logo in your menu bar. If it is not activated, enter Adium’s preferences. Select the General pane, and check the box that says “Show Adium status in menu bar.”![]()
Now that you’ve made sure the icon is in your menu bar, there are two simple ways to access your contact list in it.
The more obvious way to do it is simply to click on the icon and drag the mouse down to “Contacts,” which will bring up the list in a sub-menu.
Alternatively, you can hold down Option before clicking on the menu bar icon. This will bring you straight to a contact list. From there, click on any contact to initiate a new message window or tab, or to jump to an already opened one.
