Assigning Default Applications

RCDefaultApp

One great, simple preference pane is RCDefaultApp. What it allows you to do is set the default application for anything from URL schemes, file extensions, file types, and MIME types.

It’s really easy and efficient as well. For example; if I were to make VLC open every file type that it potentially can it takes only one click instead of going through every file type or right clicking on the file and choosing the default and then doing a change all; as you would have to do in the Finder.

Check it out at the
RCDefaultApp web site.

  1. Yay, I've been looking for something like this for a long time!

  2. I was also searching for something like this actually.

It was nice being able to do this via the "Get Info" menu command, but it was painfully slow when trying to assign a variety of file types to one application as you mentioned.
