MacTips Poll Results: Have you upgraded to Leopard 10.5 yet?

The latest poll results are in. The question was "Have you upgraded to Leopard 10.5 yet?"

Leopard users are the majority in a landslide. There were 677 votes in all with 75% of you using Leopard right now. Another 19% said you don’t have Leopard yet, but you plan on upgrading soon.

And finally 6% said you have no plans to upgrade. I’d like to hear back from this group–why no plans on upgrading?

Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll.

Why don't I plan on upgrading? Well, while I'm sure many of the features are great additions I don't feel the need for shelling out some more cash.

I'm new to the cult of Mac and by your poll I'm in a narrow minority but is it really necessary to upgrade? Tiger works great for me now, and I doubt, however cool, not having Leopard will actually improve my performance.

  2. Depending on how you use your Mac, Leopard can make a huge difference. If you run a lot of applications with many windows open simultaneously, Spaces is a great help.
If you are interested in backing up your data (who isn't?), Time Machine is an incredible way to do it.
If things like this don't matter to you, there obviously is no reason to upgrade to Leopard, but even if the majority of the 300+ new features are minor, there are a few really big ones there.

Because leopard decreases my wireless range. I can't access to wireless network in my room with leopard, but there r no problem with tiger.

  4. Xel,

Interestingly a few other people seem to be having the same issue. An update is expected with 10.5.1. This thread at Apple shows a few temporary work-arounds: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1250503&tstart=0

Changing the channels seemed to have some effect for some users.

  5. I didn't want to because it costs money, but then I saw that you were hiring and that i could make money by buying Leopard so then the choice became obvious. The only things I've really been using are spaces and stacks (only for recently downloaded). I also really like the new desktop backgrounds. I have an external coming in the mail which I plan to use with Time Machine. At this point I would say Leopard is not a must have, but it's nice to have.

  6. How about that Arabesque screensaver? It is quite possibly the coolest animation in the history of the world.
