Easy Force-Quit from the Dock

200711261623If you Control-click on an application in the dock, you are given the option to quit an application, as well as a few other selections. Sometimes, however, quitting an application does not work, and a non-responsive application needs to be force-quitted.
A quick way to do this through the dock is to hold Option before or after you Control-click on the dock icon, which changes the “Quit” option to “Force Quit.”

Oddly, I've found that force-quitting from the Dock is often not effective, whereas force-quitting through the Apple menu almost always works. I have no idea why they should be different, but it has seemed quite consistent.

  3. @JD: Hmm, I haven't noticed that, although I've often seen force-quit failing from a few different methods...it isn't as reliable as it should be.
