Move a Window from One Space to Another

You can easily move a window from any application from one space to another in Spaces with a single keyboard shortcut and drag-and-drop mouse motion.

First, activate Spaces by pressing the key combination set in the System Preferences (default is F8). Once you have summoned up Spaces, simply drag the window around the screen, and when you let go of the mouse button, the window will drop into whichever space it is held over.

Also, if you click and hold a window, and then jump to another space (eg, command-rightarrow), the window will be brought along into that new space.

  2. Haha, good point. I actually already wrote a tip about this but haven't posted it yet.

Or you can drag an application window to a specific of the screen and hold it there. For example, if you were in the first space(top left), you could drag the window to the right edge of the screen and it will move it to the second space, or to the bottom edge of the screen to move it to the third(bottom left). Depending on which space you are on will determine where you can move it and which edge of the screen to move it there.

  4. That is another good one. I remembered reading about being able to shift spaces by dragging a window to the edge, but couldn't figure out how to do it.

Thanks, these are great tips. You should also let people know that while in spaces view, you can drag entire spaces from position to position. For example, if you have Safari running in space 1, you can bring up the spaces view and drag space one to the right and it'll become space 2. This is helpful for moving all running apps from one space to another.

  7. @eman: Sadly, I couldn't find any way of doing this.... I wish you could, it seems like a very useful way of managing open windows.

    Thanks for thoses tips.
1 question: How would it be possible to open an application, as firefox, in several spaces. When I want to open in space 2, it automatically bing me to the space one where firefox is already open...

    Thanks

@Oliver: right-click the icon in the dock and select 'new window', works with safari anyway.
