Access Safari or OmniWeb Bookmarks Bar with Keyboard

Here is a really useful trick in Safari for quickly accessing your bookmarks bar. The best way I have found to doing this is is Command-#, where # is how many bookmarks away from the left end of the bar the one you are trying to access is.

For example, to load Yahoo!, I would enter Command-3, and for eBay I would enter Command-2. Adding a number to the beginning of each bookmark like I have done makes it easier to know which key to press, as well. Sadly, this does not work on folders or for opening up new tabs.

Update: This works with OmniWeb as well.

  1. You can actually set Cmd-0 to open up a folder in Safari. First, you need to make your folder and have it be the left-most folder in the bookmarks bar. After you've quit Safari, http://www.mactipper.com/2007/02/shortcuts-that-you-want.html" rel="nofollow">create a new keyboard shortcut with the title "Open in Tabs". Set it to Cmd-0. Now, open Safari and click on the bookmakrs menu. This will set the keyboard shorcut and you can use it to open multiple pages in tabs!

  2. Oh, cool! I didn't know about that. However, what I was referring to was that you can't get a drop down of the folder to select which tab you want.
