Restore Your iPod to Factory Settings

This is a very simple tip for new iPod users, and quickly shows how to restore any iPod to its original settings, or to reformat a Windows-formatted iPod to Macintosh-formatting, or vice-versa.

Simply plug the iPod into the computer, and go to “Devices” in the sidebar of iTunes. Select the iPod from the list of devices. It may take the computer some time to recognize the iPod, especially if its batteries were dead or close to dead before. Once the iPod pops up in the menu, select it and then choose “Restore” from under the “Version” section of the “Summary” pane. This will erase all the songs and data off of your iPod, so make sure you have a copy somewhere else beforehand.
