Coda is one of the best Mac programs I’ve seen since OmniOutliner. Being a Web Developer, it’s as if Panic read my mind about my biggest qualms as a Web Developer, and took 3 giant leaps forward towards doing something about it.
Let me try to outline some of the ways Coda works for me. Like most programs should, Coda just works. You need to re-arrange tabs? Click and Drag. No more fiddling with Transmit to upload files. Want to make a change on the server? No problem, remote file editing is built in. Make changes to multiple files? Publish All steps in. It all just works, and it works flawlessly.
They’ve built in Previewing on your local server so you can test it before it goes live. They’ve built in Books which anyone whose ever needed a reference manual can appreciate. The word completion is pretty good. It has a few flaws which keep it from being great.
Terminal is built in, CSS editing built in. Hints are an awesome feature that show information such as function arguments and HTML properties. Have multiple sites? Coda was built for you.
Haven’t made up your mind yet? Try it out for 2 weeks. It’s become my primary development environment. No affiliate links or product endorsements here, just a very happy developer :).
