One of the features I’ve been missing in Safari is the ability to switch between tabs with the keyboard. With a little research, I was able to find the ability already built in.

Command+Shift+Left-bracket or Command+Shift+Right-bracket will also work. Seems that -bracket has a bit of an advantage over -arrow as it will work even when a text area/box is in focus.

  2. Great tip! Always wondered if that was possible. Thanks!

Better yet, if I'm not mistaken you should be able to select any given tab with one of the command keys and the number of the tab in question (in sequence from left to right). I can't remember which command key, 'cause I'm at home with my keyboard-friendly PC, rather than at work with my mouse-addicted Apple.

I prefer the Stand (plug-in) method:

, - go back one tab
. - go forward one tab

    See http://hetima.com/safari/stand-e.html

  6. I discovered this too, because it also works in the IRC program I use. For anyone else who uses XChat on their Mac, you can use the same combination to glide between tabs. Which is a Good Thing, because then you can keep them all organized instead of laying around in separate windows!
If you have a new window for every server on IRC, or separate Safari windows with tabs, use the apple key + ~ to switch between the windows (this works in any application, and it's handy in iChat, too). Apple + tab between programs as well, and you won't need to touch your mouse for a while :)

  7. You can also use Cmd-Bracket to go forward and back. This applies to Firefox, Safari and Finder.

How about switching between windows of Safari? I read in an old hint that Cmd+ ` should work, but it apparently no longer does....

  11. Cmd + ` seems to work for me for switching between windows, but that is in Safari 3 on Leopard. Which version are you working on?

ah... I found out why. I accidentally disabled some keyboard shortcuts (in Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse). Works now. Thanks
