MacTips: Launch Week

On August 1st, I launched MacTips to the world. By launched I mean I had the site completed with 9 mac tips ready to be discovered. I e-mailed the great folks at The Unofficial Apple Weblog. I let them know about my site and why I though it would benefit their users.

To my surprise they ran the story, Announcing MacTips:

Recent switcher and TUAW reader Brad Jasper has launched a new forum: MacTips. The idea is a site with all kinds of tips and tricks geared toward switchers and general users. This will, I think, set MacTips apart from some other places like Mac OS X Hints which really cater to power users. Best of all for switchers, where a tip is for something you already know how to do on Windows, there’s a little tag telling you which Windows keystroke or procedure the Mac hint replicates.

That entry alone sent over 1,000 new visitors to the site.

From there, LifeHacker, PhotoMatt, del.icio.us, MacSurfer and various other sites picked up the launch news and traffic skyrocketed totaling 20,000 visits throughout a 7 day spread:

As far as comments go, there have been 111 comments on 18 posts, that’s an average of 6 comments per post.

Before I launched MacTips, I made the decision to test out FeedBurner’s Pro service.

Overall an exciting week for MacTips. There has been an overwhelming amount of positive feedback (a few negative things have been said, but you can’t let a few spoil the fun) and I’m very excited for the future of this site.
