Activity Monitor Uses too much system resources, takes to long to load, shows you too much information. I use Dashboard widget called WidgetTerm (quick way to get/keep terminal up) then the command 'killall' followed by applications name (dont forget to begin with a capital letter) if your not sure what the app is just type in 'top' in terminal to show all that is running.
    example 'killall iTunes'

    It works really fast!!!!

Terminal hint (don't forget to use 'man' before a command to learn more about it!!!)
    example 'man killall'

  2. Thanks Jay.

I agree for most stuff I would use the terminal, however Activity Monitor is a great alternative for people not comfortable with the command line.

I think the Activity Monitor is 100x better than Task Manager in terms of showing and displaying information relevant to the user.

  3. However, the "Task Manager" in Windows at least starts when you are asking to. In OSX 10.5.1 Server I am able to start the Activity Monitor via ARD 3.2 and than the Application Monitor launches according to the dock and menu bar (name appears), however the application window never opens, and finder and dock freeze. Which leave me no other option than the terminal/commond line. In Windows the Task Manager operates a lot more stable and reliable.

  4. I can't say I have seen Task Manager in Windows launching any faster than Activity Monitor in my history of using Windows and OS X.

However, I do agree that Activity Monitor is far too laggy.
