What is MacTips?

MacTips’ primary focus is to improve your Macintosh relationship by providing frequent, relevant and intelligent tips. We do this by providing tips and tricks that increase your productivity, solve your problems and create new solutions.

Our secondary focus it providing a structure so that a free and open Mac community may flourish.

Who started MacTips?

My name is Brad Jasper. I’m a 21 year old Entrepreneur that loves technology.

After suffering under Windows for the greater part of my life, I wanted to do web development on a unix-based machine. Years of system administration experience made me fall in love with FreeBSD. Unfortunately I didn’t like how many hacks it took running Unix as my main system.

That’s when I considered a Mac for the first time. After using one–I was sold. Since then I’ve become a Mac addict, often wishing I made “the switch” sooner. I started MacTips after realizing how many gems were hidden in OS X and how other people could benefit from my exploration of OS X. MacTips was born and I’ve never looked back.

What’s the future of MacTips?

My vision for the future of MacTips is a community that runs the site. This includes creating content, deciding which content goes on the site and bringing new ideas forward.

The Mac community is a passionate group of users that knows way more about OS X than I ever could. My hope is to create a framework for something truly amazing to happen: Mac users helping other Mac users get to know their computers.

What are your statistics?

I’m glad you asked. Most site administrators think users should never see the stats. Not me. If you’re contributing to the community–why shouldn’t you know things like how big the community is? Or how people are finding us.I think you should, you can find sexy Mint stats at http://www.mactips.org/mint/.

Who writes MacTips?

MacTips is run by a few passionate writers who love writing about OS X. Specifically Omer Zach, Michael Zhao and Travis Jeffery write the tips you see on a daily basis. Occasionally users Submit A Tip and Brad Jasper writes a tip every now and then.

How can I contribute?

MacTips loves interacting with users. Some great ways to participate in the community are commenting on tips, submitting your own tips and participating in discussions.

What are the links with the after them?

Here at MacTips, we sometimes link to products through affiliate links. Our philosophy is never link to products just because they have an affiliate program. However, if we are going to link to a product anyway, and they have an affiliate program–we may or may not use the affiliate URL.

This helps support MacTips without big ugly banners and invasive advertising. Some users may consider this a conflict of interest, which is why we disclose all affiliate links in posts with our affiliate icon .
